Potential Vendor Information How We Choose Our Trading Partners: If you're interested in selling products with Global Exchange, we choose our trading partners based on:
If groups wanting to sell products to our Fair Trade Stores are not already members of the Fair Trade Federation or certified by Transfair USA, then they are carefully screened through our vendor form to ensure that they qualify as Fair Trade. Filling out a vendor form and meeting Fair Trade criteria unfortunately does not guarantee that Global Exchange will be able to enter into a business relationship with your company. Your product must also be considered marketable, desirable, at the correct price and available, among other factors. Our Online Store only carries products that are consistent in design, size, shape, etc. since products must match the product photo online. Global Exchange has four Fair Trade Stores, and each of the stores does their own buying independently. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis by the buyer at each individual Global Exchange store. Before we consider your product(s) for our stores and begin the process of screening, in addition to meeting Fair Trade criteria, please be certain your company/group meets the following basic description: Product Must be From:
If your product(s) fits the description above and meets Fair Trade Criteria contact our stores to request an appointment if possible and/or send photos or a catalogue of your product(s) via email or U.S. postal mail. This can just be a series of photos of products with a pricelist that includes size and color options. Visit our Contact Us section for our contact information. Remember, each of our stores makes their own buying decisions. So if one store is not interested, then perhaps try our others. If your product(s) interests us, we will request that you fill out our Fair Trade vendor questionnaire so that we may consider you as a vendor (Fair Trade Federation members need not fill out a vendor questionnaire). Development Assistance: We do the majority of our purchasing through wholesalers who are members of the Fair Trade Federation. About once a year we take direct buying trips to increase the amount of direct purchases that we do, but these are not development/consulting trips. We can generally only do this in places where there is a local nongovernmental crafts development organization that can help the small producer groups with product development, pricing, quality control, marketing, and shipping. Since we focus here on the retail side - in order to be in direct contact with the public to do public education about Fair Trade, we do not have the capacity to do direct consulting or development with crafts groups around the world.
