These 100% Cotton Square Cotton Scarves are made using the agent technique of mud blocking printing or "dabu" in Rajasthan, India.

The colors are natural dyes of indigo, pomegranate, palm sugar and other minerals.

The large square shape makes this scarf very versatile with more ways to wear it. Try wearing in the hair, or fold to create many different styles and fashions.

Available in three colors: Green, Blue, and Purple.

About Mud Block Printing:   First, the wood blocks to be used for printing are carved by hand with ornate patterns. These blocks are then dipped into dyes and used to print onto the fabric.
The second stage of printing uses the mud print, or "dabu" resist. This resist is a mixture of river bed clay, slaked lime, tree gum and wheat powder. The resist covers the previously printed block so that when the entire fabric is dipped into another dye (for example Indigo) everything except the original block print gets colored. When the fabric is dried and washed, the pattern revealed is an indigo dyed fabric with beautifully decorative and unique prints.

About the Group:   The tradition of hand block-printing has a long history in the state of Rajasthan, where many artisans have been forced to move into the capital (Jaipur) to work in large factories set up to meet the western demand for cheap textiles.
Chambundi is a five generation old family block-printing business widely recognized for its award winning quality and design.   The family employs 50 community members, an equal number of men and women and is helping to build their small community where employment is extremely limited.
