Description

Hand woven and embroidered with colorful flowers; this belt will make you feel happy whenever you wear it!

Made of woven wool and backed for durability with soft cotton fabric, each flower and leaf has been hand embroidered by a group of over 50 Indigenous women living in villages in very rural areas of the Peruvian Andes Mountains. Each belt is fitted with a sturdy brass buckle.

As each belt is hand made, they can differ slightly from belt to belt. Although colors are the same, patterns, holes and sizes do differ slightly.

Choose from three color choices: Orange, Black or Blue.

Dimensions: Two sizes available: Small - 42" (fits 28"- 36" waists) or Large - 46" (fits 32"- 40" waists) x 2" wide (sizing is approximate as each belt is hand made)

Producer Information:

Making belts in the highland village of Ayacucho.

This fair-trade cooperative of artisans is made up of over 50 women who make embroidered wool products. The co-operative is dedicated to egalitarian leadership, comfortable work conditions as well as fair wages. Through this stable employment, there is hope and a positive future in a very impoverished area of Peru; it is helping bring the community together after years of civil war and genocide.
