Native Scents is a network of Native American wildcrafters from Canada to South America who collect plants in an ecological and traditional way, centered in Taos. Native Scents seeks to connect people to ancient earth-conscious tools for personal transformation. With a small staff of 7 people, Native Scents has brought together a network of people and fostered the survival of an age-old, sacred tradition.
The Pueblo people originally inhabited the area around Taos, and the techniques and secrets of collecting these often rare items has been passed down through the generations. Much of the gathering is done by families who then bring in the products to be dried and finished at the Native Scents office in Taos. The main office acts as a clearinghouse for the wildcrafters who come in throughout the week with their products. The key to its success has been the ability to cooperate and create a shared space in which everyone feels ownership.
