La Palma is a town in the crisp mountains of Chalatenango, in Northern El Salvador near the Honduran border. Most of its residents are artisans who make their living producing a unique style of folk art with great difficulty as this area has recently been affected by civil war. The unique style of craftwork seen in La Palma products was created by the Salvadoran artist Fernando Llort, and continues to change and find new means of expression. Each La Palma item reflects the images of the every day life of the region. Birds, houses, and animals are part of the natural surroundings and are reflected in this art form using readily available materials. The artists put their creativity and personality into each item and the colors and designs are never exactly the same.

The workshop of Guillermo O. Reyes is located in San Ignacio, the cultural center of the vibrant painting traditions of El Salvador. The company's mission is to provide quality handicrafts, while working in harmony with culture, tourism, and the environment of El Salvador. Guillermo O. Reyes is a master woodworker and painter and employs 9 local artisans, providing them with fair wages and a sustainable income. All paints used in the workshop are water based and all products are made from certified plywood and pinewood that come from sustainable forests in Chile.
One of the Guillermo O. Reyes products, the Hand-Painted Menorah is created through a special partnership with the San Ignacio Schools and Tin Marin Children's Museum in San Salvador. Twenty percent of the profits from the creation of the menorah will be reinvested back in the San Ignacio schools and fifty percent will be used to send the children of San Ignacio to the Tin Marin Children's Museum in San Salvador.
Tin Marin Children's Museum is a fun and interactive learning center dedicated to the exploration of culture, technology, environment, and health. Tin Marin is the only museum of its kind in El Salvador and provides an educational experience to thousands of rural El Salvadorian school children every year, free of cost. The special partnership between the workshop of Guillmero O. Reyes and the Tin Marin Children's Museum is a wonderful example of the benefits of Fair Trade for the local artisans and the communities they serve.
